Ok, I lied; it’s her second trip, but her first to see me in the UK. She arrived on Wednesday and we spent most of next few days just hanging out: going to the gym, watching Farscape, generally having a laid back time.

For the weekend we drove to Lumley Castle and attending a very cool Elizabethan Banquet. It wasn’t at all what I expected, it was a real medieval dinner (sans forks too) with a stage show during the meal. It was a blast! Good food, good mead (and a jub of ale twice the size of my head), and good entertainment. The rooms were period room inside the castle and were decidedly cool. All three of us enjoyed the stay.

On Monday night we had a birthday dinner and were surprised by my sneaky wife with our favourite desserts: Chocolate Cake and Berries in Custard. We bought my Mom a membership to LEF (see link below) and I was treated to a Polar S810 (top of line heart rate monitor for cardio training) from Mom and 2hrs of massage at a cool spa in Dundee from my wife.

All in all, a great visit and birthday!

What a great trip! I was able to see firsthand Patrick and Elizabeth’s lifestyle and home in Dundee. We exercised at the gym, shopped and had wonderful dinners at their place. Elizabeth made some of the recipes from the cookbook I compiled of fa,ily recipes. What a gracious lady she is! I met several of their friends and co-workers and enjoyed everyone. Each year, Patrick and I try to spend our joint birthdays together and this one was spent at Lumley Castle in England. Truly an amazing old castle with a tremendous amount of charm and history. We had the traditional feast and yuk, had to use our hands to eat, just like in the really old days. But even that turned out to be fun. I look forward to my next trip and hope that Rick can make the trip with me too. Thank you Patrick and Elizabeth:}
