Today the world changed. We aren’t safe anymore. We aren’t at peace
anymore. We need to fix that. This must not happen again. This will
not.

Reflecting Back |
Reading my initial comments and seeing these pictures again brings
back some of my original emotions from this event. This time though,
instead of outrage I feel more pity and sadness. Pity for ourselves
for what our initial anger and fear have made of us. Sadness for the
police-state that the once (moderately) free US has become. I
constantly reflect on the luck that has seen both of us living outside
"Fortress North America" since those events. As each new
draconian law is passed in Canada or the US we shiver a little.
Xenophobia is a very dangerous thing. I see in the leaders of
North America shadows of Hitler (although in George Bush’s case it’s
so hard to see anything but an adolescent monkey). I hope that it
will work itself out but I would not feel comfortable moving
home now.
This event was a great spiritual lesson for me. Watching how
everyone, including myself, reacted at the time showed me many flaws
within myself. Though I will never approve of terrorism, I now think
the only solution is to strive for a universally better world
where noone will feel the need to do such things. We are all
ultimately responsible for the world which we’ve created...
