The Death of a Generation |
My grandfather’s death was very painful to me. I’m happy that he’s not suffering in pain anymore. I’m
happy that he’ll no longer be without the love of his life. I know
life has been very difficult for him since Grandma passed
away; he was the last of his generation in my lineage.
He influenced me in so many ways. It was almost as if we were
echoes in time of each other, our lives sharing odd intersections. If
I had lived in his time he’s the person I would have hoped to be. He
foreshadowed my fascination with cryptography and computers during his
time on the front in WW2 as a top-secret cleared comm officer working
with the latest ciphers and electronics. When he was younger he lived
life to it’s fullest and partied just as hard as I did. He’s even
been in the city where I now live.
I’ll miss him a lot. Always.
Before he died he said that I was the son he’d never had and that
he was proud of me. I will always be proud of him and everything that
he’s done for this world. Good-bye Grandpa. I love you.

Patrick, these are two historically important photos of Grampa. He
was a founding member of the Congress of Affiliated Alberta Unions!
The Conference was held at the Palliser Hotel in Calgary 25-26 June,
1946. At some point in the future, I will contact this association to
see if they would like these photos for their archives.

Now living in Kelowna, my grandfather is still an influential figure
in my life.
He fought on the front in WW2 in the Communications Core (see
below) and is responsible for many of my world views and a good chunk
of my patriotism.
In June of 2001 he met my love Elizabeth.
