This was my first real colossal move. My previous move to
Vancouver was very easy because I had very few possessions and no
furniture. Near the end of March I started to sift through all my
things and throw out at least two green garbage bags (the big ones)
every day. I managed to easily discard a quarter of all my
posessions; many things that held sentimental value were photographed
and then thrown out, things that wouldn’t sell in the auction and I
didn’t need were turfed too. I piled all the things that I didn’t
want into my living room and on March 1st the auction house picked it
all up.
I spent that weekend going through the last of my possessions
(about a quarter of what I’d started out with) and weeding out the
last few things that I didn’t really need. On Monday the movers
showed up and left me with an empty condo.
The next three weeks I spent living with my Mom in
Richmond and tying up all my loose ends. I managed to
travel to Huntsville to see Bert and Christina
and to Edmonton to see my Dad and Jill.
Overall it was a rather relaxed and organised move
. See my First Week in the UK.
